Important News About Michigamea Lodge

Hello Brothers,

We have received the news that the four Lodges of Pathway to Adventure Council will be merging. This comes as a surprise to all of us. For most of us, Michigamea is the only Lodge that we’ve ever called home. As shocked as I am by this news, I see this as a new chapter for our Lodge's history and as an opportunity to have an extremely successful last year as Michigamea Lodge. This is a chance to define what it means to be Michigamea Lodge.

To put it simply, change is hard. No one likes change, especially big change like this. I imagine that fifty three years ago, when it was announced that Pokagon Lodge would merge with its neighbor, Oposa Achomawi Lodge, many of the members at the time had the same sentiments we are having right now. However, this merger is not closing the book on our history. In fact, this is an opportunity to share with more scouts what is great about our Lodge.

As the four Lodges come together, we all bring unique qualities to the table. Michigamea can share with the others all of our great programs, such as our stellar Elangomat Committee or our incredibly committed Ceremonial team, just to name a few. Michigamea will form a pivotal part of this new Lodge. There are so many great, up-and-coming leaders in our Lodge right now, and I firmly believe that they can make a great impact on the future of this new Lodge.

It is important to remain positive about this change. I, myself, regard it as an honor to be serving as the last full-term Lodge Chief of Michigamea Lodge. I look forward to leading you all in this time of change, setting the path for our future. I sincerely hope that all of us can remain optimistic and see this change not as a burden but as an opportunity to grow.

The new Lodge will be chartered on January 1st, 2019. Thus, we have fifteen months to finish our business as Michigamea Lodge. I am writing a plan as a guide for the next year, a course of action for our final chapter as Michigamea. This plan will act as the capstone to our history as Michigamea. Additionally, I will be forming a committee for business relating to the merger at the next LEC. PTAC has asked me to designate three members of the Lodge to form the council committee which will organize all aspects of the new Lodge. Other than that, I don't have much information on the merger, but I intend to remain as transparent as possible. Please read the letter we received about the merger for all the information we currently have.

If you have any questions or would like to be a part of the committee, please let me know at

Together we will make the next year the best that the Lodge has ever seen.

Yours in Scouting,
Michael Kohler
